Crusader Athletics

Athletic Director's Welcome

Welcome to the world of athletics at Tacoma Baptist Junior/Senior High School. Athletics play a very important role in the overall development of each student involved in our programs. The lessons learned in the classroom are reinforced and enhanced through participation in competitive interscholastic activities. Emphasis on self-sacrifice, humility, sportsmanship, fair play, and doing all to the glory of God are the mainstays of our commitment to athletics, and we combine these ideals with a strong desire to be excellent in everything we do. We are committed to providing our students the best opportunity to be successful.

Our athletic teams have a rich tradition of league and post-season accomplishments. The Crusaders are members of the 2B Sea-Tac League, the SeaKing District and the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association. Many of our sports teams have participated at the state level, and we hold state banners for boys soccer and boys and girls track. Football, basketball, cross country and wrestling make consistent appearances at the state tournaments, as well.

Tacoma Baptist provides a quality experience for the student involved in athletics. Ministry through sports is combined with a desire to be excellent.

Go Crusaders!

Philosophy of Athletics

Mission Statement:
Our mission is to utilize athletics as a unique educational tool to glorify God as we develop Biblical qualities in our young men and women by equipping them spiritually, intellectually, physically, and socially in Christ, so He then can use their gifts and talents to impact the world with the gospel.

A Tradition of Excellence:
The mission of the Tacoma Baptist Athletic Department is to support the overall ministry of South Sound Christian Schools by continuing to develop and strengthen, through the use of competitive, interscholastic athletics, the spiritual and academic lessons learned in the classroom. The athletic department also recognizes that the model of team sports is very similar in structure and function to that of Christian body life. Furthermore, the athletic department believes that the pursuit of excellent performance, combined with high integrity, is Biblical in concept and necessary to the overall mission of South Sound Christian Schools.

Core Beliefs:
1. We are committed to the participation in and the coaching of athletics at TBHS/JH as a ministry, first and foremost. Athletics is simply a tool for us to continue to develop the spiritual and academic goals of the school in the young men and women that we serve. We are ministers first, and coaches and athletes second.

2. We are committed to the ideals of self sacrifice, humility, sportsmanship, caring for and the lifting up of others, dedication and commitment, hard work, integrity, fair play, patience, exercising of our gifts, self control, and giving honor and glory to God. We are Christians first, and athletes and coaches second.

3. We are committed to providing a positive environment of excellence. We will work hard to provide every individual and team the best opportunity to be successful. We are dedicated to quality achievement and high standards. We will honor God by doing all to the glory of God first, and accomplishing earthly success second.

Team Goals That Help Us Fulfill Our Mission:
Help us understand who we are in Christ. Help us graduate with excellence. Help us become the best athletes we can become. Win the League Championship. Win the State Championship.

NOTE: Team Mission Statement and Team Goals were patterned and copied from the Liberty University Football Team, Ken Karcher, Head Coach, and found in the AMERCIAN MONTHLY FOOTBALL, Magazine, Vol. 11, July, 2005. pg. 35.
