“Dedication of New Covered Play area at New Hope Campus”

On Thursday, April 24, the students and staff at the New Hope Campus gathered for a time of prayer of thanksgiving and dedication to God for our New Covered Play area.  Funds for this project were raised from efforts at our annual auction.  This structure will greatly enhance the recreational area for students, allowing them to get “fresh air” even on those misty, rainy Washington days.  This large area offers two adjustable height basketball hoops underneath, as well as area in the middle of the structure for other activities.  We are so grateful to the many parents and supporters of New Hope Christian who made this enhancement possible.  This is a fantastic addition to our wonderful campus!”

TBS Choir Selected for Third Time to Sing

The Tacoma Baptist High School Choir recently took part in the Northwest Regional ACSI “Musicale” festival. The festival was held March 18, 19 at Seattle Pacific University. TBS was one of 21 schools from Washington, Oregon and Idaho, taking part in this event. Choirs came together to sing 5 mass choir numbers under the direction of Dr. James Melton of Vanguard University. Dr. Melton also adjudicated each choir individually. The TBS choir was selected to sing “Amor de mi alma” at the command performance, tying for first place with the Bear Creek School in the large school division. This is the third time in the last four years that the choir has been selected for this honor.

Also honored at this event was senior Mariah Slifer who was selected to perform “On My Own” in the vocal solo category. Mariah Slifer and Lane Gillman also received an honorable mention for their duet, “Bless the Broken Road”.

Spring Program at New Hope

New Hope Christian School experienced their Spring Program, April 3rd.  The students conducted a fantastic presentation of the Easter story in song.  The title of the program was, "Good News from a Grave."  Several hundred people were in attendance.  We are very thankful for the wonderful presentation.

8th Grade Class Travels to Washington D.C.

Twenty-nine 8th grade students at our Tacoma Baptist Campus enjoyed an “experience of a lifetime” as they experienced their history curriculum first hand.  Each year participating 8th grade students enjoy a trip hosted by a Christian travel organization that guides us through a study of our Christian heritage in the Washington D.C. area.  Students visited the “roots” of our country in their guided tours of Monticello, Jamestown, Yorktown, and Colonial Williamsburg.  Students were able to visit and learn of important locations of our federal government as they visited the U.S. Supreme Court, Library of Congress building, the Capital building, and the White House.  The Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, World War II memorial, Korean Memorial, and Washington Memorial were visited in an effort to remind us of the important lessons from history.  The Holocaust museum provided valuable insights into decisions that have been made by nations that abandoned God’s principles and the results of such choices.

Our students were able to honor those who gave their lives for our country by visiting the Arlington National Cemetery, observing the changing of the guard ceremony, and laying a wreath at the “Challenger” memorial.  At SSCS, we feel that the Christian heritage of our country has contributed to what has made this such a great nation

Tacoma Baptist Girls Snag Eighth at State

Their 47-38 loss to Shoreline Christian on Saturday established that the trophy would be for eighth place. “The girls just got a little tired,” coach Josh Narayan said after his team played its fourth game in four days at the Class 2B state tournament in Spokane. “We had good looks at the basket. But the shots weren’t falling,” Narayan said. Led by Erica Tuell’s 12 points and Melanie Shank’s 11, Tacoma Baptist (20-8) rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to close the gap to four but couldn’t complete the comeback. Tuell led the charge, scoring all of her points in the second half and shooting 4-of-7 from 3-point range. Shoreline Christian (22-2) used pressure defense to cause 24 turnovers and win its third game in a row, securing the fifth-place trophy. Shoreline Christian’s Angela Woods led all scorers with 14 points. Despite the loss, Narayan said his team was focusing on this season’s accomplishments. “We talked about the hard work we had done,” Narayan said. “We talked about what the trophy means for the team and for the school.” Narayan said his team enjoyed its run at state. “They got a win,” he said. “That was the first step. After that, they enjoyed it. They got the taste of it.”
