TBS Tacoma Campus
In the 1950’s, Jim Bramblet, along with brothers Lyle and Everett, all Christian schoolteachers from Portland, were traveling to Seattle to attend a teachers’ convention. As they drove through Tacoma, they wondered if there was a Christian school in the area. Acting on this concern, the Bramblet brothers began talking to pastors in the Tacoma area about the possibility of starting a Christian school here. Six Baptist churches, all from the General Association of Regular Baptist Churches (GARBC), shared the brothers’ vision and out of that cooperation, Tacoma Baptist Schools was incorporated in 1959.
TBS offered its first classes in 1960 with Jim Bramblet as the principal. Classes were held in churches and later in an empty public school building in Tillicum. The school acquired the current campus property in 1964. That same year, Dr. Doug Bond took over as principal and along with his wife, Mary Jane, grew the school in many capacities. The high school was added in 1966 and graduated its first class of seniors in 1970. Dr. Bond retired in 2001, and since that time, TBS has benefitted from the leadership of Timothy Hoy, Robert White, Debbie Schindler, and our current principal, Brad McCain.
Today, Baptist thought and doctrine continue to contribute to the spiritual fabric of our school but does not exclusively define it. Our students represent more than one hundred Protestant churches throughout the South Sound. Our Bible classes teach the basics of the faith and encourage students to make their faith their own. TBS students develop a strong understanding of the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, experience His love and grace, and graduate firmly grounded in the truth of His Word.
Tacoma Baptist Schools offer engaging classes for Pre-K through High School, serving families throughout the South Puget Sound.
Students and their families experience traditional Christian education with an emphasis in reading, writing, math, history, and science along with a rich foundational knowledge of computers, art, and music. Older students have a variety of co-curricular electives to choose from which enrich their academic experience.
Christian teachers who are positive role models give students instruction in a safe and nurturing environment where students can grow together with loving friends, servant hearts, and Biblical truth. Students are taught critical character lessons in their daily Bible classes and weekly chapels. As students get older, the spiritual focus shifts toward discipleship and developing a strong Biblical worldview.
At TBS we have a strong sense of family. Teachers and parents partner to create a loving, Christ-centered education that helps the children to grow academically, spiritually, and socially. Students at Tacoma Baptist enjoy learning with friends and teachers who love them as we grow together in faith, knowledge, and skill.
