New Hope Elementary - Student Life
Chess Club
This club meets weekly with students of all grades. Club members practice the skills and strategies of chess, compete in tournaments, and enjoy fun fellowship. Several students earned champion titles during the club's first year, 2009-10.
Band
This is offered before or after school to 4th through 6th grade. Students are taught beginning band and develop the skills of reading music, and playing instruments such as clarinet, flute, trumpet, trombone, saxophone, or drums. The class offers training necessary to excel in band when they enter junior high.
Spelling Bee
4th through 6th grade compete for the ACSI spelling bee in the south Puget Sound region. The students compete in their classes and the top two spellers from each grade compete regionally.
Geography Bee
4th through 6th grade compete in this event, first by grade. The top ten students from all three grades then compete to find the top geography participant for the school.
Science Fair
The 6th grade class demonstrates their understanding and use of the scientific method by competing in a science fair in May. The students must come up with a question, research, hypothesis, experiment, analysis, and conclusion. The students must present their projects and are evaluated by 3 judges. The entire student body also gets to participate by viewing, asking questions, and 3-5 grades get to evaluate.
Nation’s Fair
Each student in 5th grade researches a specific country. They develop a computer generated slide show, research paper, display board, and oral presentation in which students and parents come to view. Students can also provide foods and artifacts from each country.
Pioneer Fair
2nd grade students investigate the life of a pioneer and then sample their way of life by producing food, toys, clothing, or model of an activity or place a pioneer would have experienced.
Christmas Musical
The entire student body has the privilege and joy in participating in a Christmas musical that develops music skills and is a production the parents and the community look forward to each December.
Chapel: New Hope students Kindergarten through 6th grade participate in a special celebration of Jesus every Friday in chapel. We begin with worship in song followed by guest speakers or student presentations.
Easter Chapel
The entire student body contributes to our annual Easter chapel.
Veteran’s Day
At New Hope we take pride in our country and heroes who ensured our freedom to worship Jesus. We take joy in honoring our veterans with a special chapel.
Kindergarten Graduation
At the close of the school year the kindergarten class has a delightful ceremony and celebration of what they have learned to mark the beginning of their “big kid” education.
6th grade retreat
New Hope and Tacoma Baptist 6th grade classes embark on a two day retreat where they learn more of Jesus and each other.
Grandparents’ Day
We love our grandparents and annually invite them to participate with their grandchildren during the school day.
