Tacoma Baptist Elementary - Student Life
Elementary student life includes much more than classroom instruction. On a daily basis, students have a short recess in the morning and again in the afternoon, with a longer recess during the time allotted for lunch. Hot lunch is available on all full days of school. Typically, students will also have a specialist each day as scheduling permits. Throughout the year other special events and activities enrich elementary student life as follows:
Special Dress-up Theme Days
These include patriotic dress-up days, school spirit days, Christmas themes, or other fun occasions that occur throughout the year.
The Christmas Store
This is an opportunity for students to bring money and purchase inexpensive gifts and Christmas ornaments for their families and friends. The funds go to the Booster Club.
Young Authors Day
A visiting author or authors come and provide instruction and inspiration to elementary students working on a writing project.
The theme for the year is broken into monthly themes and addressed by a variety of speakers who provide Biblical instruction and life application.
Grandparents Appreciation and Pastor Appreciation
These are two special chapels designed to give elementary students the opportunity to give honor where honor is due and show appreciation for family and those who minister to us.
Special All-school Chapels
Veteransʼ Day, Christmas, and other special occasions are used to gather the entire school together for chapel. We encourage our school family and the community to join us.
Occasions such as Great American Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentineʼs Day, and the Last Day of School are celebrated with classroom parties organized by room parents or class officers.
The elementary students present outstanding concerts at Christmas and in the spring. These provide performance experiences for the students and an opportunity for them to demonstrate the musical skills they have been developing.
Fourth through sixth graders participate in a school spelling bee with the winners going on to the ACSI District Spelling Bee.
Third through sixth grade students compete for the opportunity to represent TBS at the ACSI District Math Olympics.
After-school Academic Clubs
A Spelling Club offers students help and practice in preparing for the ACSI Spelling Bee. In January, a Math Club meets to prepare students for Math Olympics.
Elementary Basketball Program
Second through sixth graders may participate in a program allowing them to form grade level teams and play basketball with students from other Christian schools.
Race for Education
Occurring in October, the Race for Education is an event in which students gather sponsors and then walk/run for approximately an hour to raise money for the school.
Students in all grades take field trips, carefully aligned with instructional goals, to enhance their learning experiences.
In-class Guest Speakers
Parents, professionals, and other qualified speakers visit individual classrooms to enhance learning experiences.
