SSCS Purpose Statement
At South Sound Christian Schools we believe Scripture to be God’s Word, honor the relationship with our families and acknowledge the importance of the church as pillars in educating your child – it is a sacred trust.
The Bible speaks of the moral and spiritual instruction of children, and it is important that we consider what that means in the context of school. Scripture places a high value upon knowledge and understanding of God and of His works. It describes the moral and spiritual outcomes of this knowledge and outlines the importance of understanding and application in the life of the believer.
OUR FAMILIES MATTER
The Bible states that education is to begin in, and is the responsibility of, the home (Deut. 6:7). Parents are responsible for the education of their children; to instruct (Deut. 4:9-10), to discipline (Eph. 6:4), and to train (Deut. 6:6-9) their children in every way toward a Christian view of life.
The purpose of SSCS is to partner with parents in the awesome responsibility of rearing their children to know, to love, and to obey God.
OUR VOCATIONAL CALLING
In addition, Scripture indicates that the responsibilities of the church include a responsibility to teach (Rom. 12:4-7; I Cor. 12:28). SSCS, as an extension of the home and church, receives its Biblical mandate to educate. Out of that comes the purpose of SSCS: the development and education of the student to become like Christ.
A HIGHER LEVEL OF EDUCATION
Education, then, is the ongoing process of the development of the mind and body toward the accomplishment of specific objectives. The purpose of SSCS is the development of each student towards God's objective for man: godly character with the final outcome being "that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works" (2 Tim. 3:17).
